Free. No app. No login. Bring someone.

Scrolling is a step — but not one that counts toward the 4,000.

The shape of it

4,000 steps.
One destination.
A neighborhoodthat just got smaller.

Most people walk past their block five times a week without seeing it. We pick a place — a bakery, a bookshop, a doorway you’ve passed for years — and walk there together. The walk is how you earn it. The destination is the whole point.

  • 1Free, forever

We're not selling anything — no course, no app, no merch. (We're accepting bakery recommendations, though.)

  • 2Show up — that's it

No login. No download. No QR code at the door. Just walk in the direction of the rest of us.

  • 3Flexible schedule

We try to coordinate walks for when they work best for the masses — say when, say where, and we'll find the day everyone can show up.

  • 4One destination

Every walk ends somewhere specific. A bakery, a bookshop, a doorway. Walk in, order something, say hi. Or don't.

The pitch, plainly

You were going to walk somewhere. Walk with us.

We aren’t bold enough to say we make new walkers. We make the barrier to entry for a walk lower. We want to stop the cycle of “that place I’ve been meaning to go for two years” and start the cycle of “this is what we get to explore next week.”

Why we do this

The fastest way to know how amazing your neighborhood is, is to explore it.

  • Connect with neighbors you already had
  • Discover the place you already live
  • Spend zero dollars doing both

You’ve arrived.

The destination isn’t a finish line — it’s the reason we left. A panadería with the lights just coming on. A muralist halfway through their morning. A bench nobody’s sat on for three weeks.

Walk in. Order something. Say hi.
(Or don’t. It counts either way.)

Frequently asked

Quick answers, slowly arrived at.

How long is a 4000 Club walk?
About 4,000 steps — roughly 1.8 miles, or 30 to 45 minutes at a sidewalk pace. Every walk ends at one local spot in the neighborhood: a bakery, a bookshop, a coffee counter, a doorway worth standing in front of.
Is it free?
Yes. The 4000 Club is free, forever. No membership, no app, no dues. You're welcome to buy something at the place we end at, but you don't have to.
When are walks scheduled?
On demand. When a neighbor asks for a walk in their block or neighborhood, we put it on the map and round up others nearby. There's no fixed weekly slot — we coordinate around the dates that work for the people who want to walk.
Which Chicago neighborhoods do you walk in?
Right now: Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Old Town, River North, Logan Square, Wicker Park, and West Town. If you want a walk somewhere else in Chicago, ask — that's how the map grows.
Do I need to be fit?
No. 4,000 steps is a sidewalk-pace stroll. If you can comfortably walk for half an hour on flat ground, you're welcome. Strollers, dogs, and slower paces are all part of the rhythm.
How is this different from Meetup or Bumble for Friends?
No app. No swipe. No subscription. You ask for a walk, we schedule it, you show up. It's a walking club for neighbors who'd rather meet each other on the sidewalk than on a screen.
