On our radar
Go before they leave.
- DePaul Art Museumfifteen years on Fullerton, closing for good June 30 as DePaul reorganizes. Four thousand works, one last walk-through before the doors lock.
Recently lost
A small moment for what just left.
- Max and Issy's Pizzeriathe Diversey slice shop served its last on March 28 after two decades; the owners are leaving on their own terms, which is the rare kind of goodbye.
Some of our favorites
The ones we'd end a walk at.
- Floriole Café & BakeryWebster Avenue, where the sourdough has a small but devoted following and the morning bun has ruined other morning buns.
- Sweet Mandy B'snext door to Floriole, all frosted sugar cookies and old-fashioned cake stands. Open since 2002 and unchanged in the best way.
- Kibbitznest Books, Brews & Blarneya laptop-free bookstore-bar on Clybourn. Trivia on Tuesdays, floor pillows, a Wi-Fi-free promise they actually keep.
- Bourgeois Pig CaféFullerton near Geneva Terrace, wood tables and house sandwiches named after novels. The kind of place you read in for three hours and nobody minds.
The ones we don't have to tell you about
…but we will, briefly.
- Lincoln Park Zooyes, the free one. We know.
- Lincoln Park Conservatorythe Palm House in February is a coping mechanism. We know.
